Our singing retreat in Newquay was truly an unforgettable experience. The days were filled with laughter, joy, and the magic of singing together. We had the opportunity to meet new people, learn songs together, and explore harmony to bring our voices together.
This blog post will provide an overview of the retreat, highlight the singing bowl meditation experience, discuss the yurts where we stayed, and share the delicious experience of Cornish pasties on the beach. Finally, we'll reflect on our final day singing outside on a beautiful sunny day.
One of the highlights of the retreat was the singing bowl meditation experience. Led by our talented instructor Jo, we embarked on a soothing and transformative journey. Singing bowl meditation is a form of sound therapy that uses Tibetan singing bowls. The vibrations produced by the singing bowls are said to have a healing effect on the body and mind. During the meditation session, we laid down and closed our eyes and just listened to the sounds. The different sounds created were mesmerising, helping us to immerse ourselves in the experience. As we continued, we focused on the vibrations and their effects on our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. It was a truly profound and rejuvenating experience.
Our accommodation for the retreat was unique and quirky - we stayed in yurts! Yurts are traditional Mongolian tents, and ours were located at the back on the top of the hill. They were spacious and beautifully decorated, providing a cozy and comfortable place for our retreat. Each yurt had its own charm and character, and three double beds, offering us a sense of connection to the outdoors. Staying in the yurts was a wonderful way to immerse ourselves in the natural beauty of Newquay. Waking up to the sounds cows and the rain on the canvas roof was truly magical. The yurts provided us with a serene and peaceful environment, allowing us to fully relax in the retreat experience.
We had a delightful musical session where we had the opportunity to delve into some upbeat pop tunes led by myself followed by two traditional anthems led by Jo. The session showcased a delightful blend of harmonies, with sopranos, altos, and tenors contributing to the melodious sound.
The pop tunes brought a sense of cheer and energy to the atmosphere, with their catchy melodies and energetic beats. The sopranos chimed in with their high-pitched notes, adding a touch of sweetness to the songs. Altos, with their rich tones, harmonised with the sopranos, creating an uplifting and harmonious blend. The tenors, with their deep and powerful voices, added depth and gravitas to the arrangements, creating a captivating and captivating listening experience.
As we transitioned into the traditional anthems, we were treated to beautiful renditions that showcased the rich history of music.
Overall, Saturday's song session was a joyful day.
On Saturday, we had a delicious lunch at Frisco Beach and had traditional Cornish pasties on the beach, all I can say is Yum... absolutely delicious! We enjoyed our lunch with the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, providing the perfect backdrop for our meal. After lunch, we headed back to site and continued with more singing.
At the end of day, ladies prepared the evening which was also delicious, we gathered around the campfire which I led and shared campfire songs for all to sing. At one point there were three generations singing campfire songs together, my mother, my daughter and myself. It was a magical moment, filled with laughter and storytelling. We reminisced about the songs we had learned, our favorite moments of the retreat, and the new friends we had made. The campfire provided warmth and connection, deepening the bonds that were formed during the retreat.
On our final day, we woke up to a beautiful sunny day. We decided to make the most of our surroundings and gathered outside for our final singing session. The fresh air and the sound of birds chirping filled our ears as we opened our voices in harmony.
Jo taught us a song and our voices blending together like a harmonious choir. It was a fitting end to an incredible journey. As we said our goodbyes, we reflected on the transformative experience we had shared. The retreat had awakened a sense of connection within us, both to ourselves and to each other. We had discovered the power of music, the healing properties of singing bowl meditation, and the joy of spending time in nature.
We departed with smiles on our faces and a song in our hearts, knowing that we had created a special bond that would last a lifetime.
In conclusion, our singing retreat in Newquay was an unforgettable experience. We had the opportunity to meet new people, learn songs together, and explore harmony to bring our voices together. The singing bowl meditation experience was transformative, allowing us to relax and rejuvenate. The yurts provided us with a unique and cozy accommodation, and the experience of Cornish pasties on the beach will remain unforgettable.
Finally, our final day outside singing on a beautiful sunny day was the perfect way to end our journey.
